Bella Muerte – Halloween Development Update 🎃

Hi! Are you looking for something scary to play this Halloween? If you have not tried the demo of Bella Muerte yet, we invite you to experience it.

More than 400 people have already played it and it makes us very happy.

If you have already played the demo, today we want to show you new stuff that we have been working on these last months.

Based on your feedback, we refine the experience to make it more accessible. We slightly modified the UI and tried to improve the perception of movement in a room. Now the cursor will change its image at the side of the screen (when it’s possible to change the perspective).

More than ten rooms were designed and coded, each one with its interactable objects and characters to talk with. You will explore these new rooms in Chapter 2.

At this time, we are also correcting the English translation.

You’ll be able to explore the first floor in Chapter 2, so we’ve added a map that will make it easier to find your location in the house. It’s not going to be available from the beginning, you will have to find it.
The map will mark your current location, the side you are looking at, whether the doors are open or closed, and the name of each room.
We may add new features to the map in the future.

Which other features are important to you? Leave a comment below!

Last but not least, we show you new screenshots from Chapter 2. We hope you like them.

All of this will arrive in a future update when the second chapter is ready. We don’t have an estimated date yet. We hope it will be soon.

Thank you so much for reading! Happy Halloween 🎃

October – December 2019 | Game Development Diary

It was a fantastic year, full of learning and surprises. In January we started pitching the idea for a new game and now, one year later, we have a full game in development with a lot of features (and more in the way). The project has been expanded in comparison to the original idea, it’s bigger and more complex.

Last months we focused on applying all the voice lines to the prologue and chapter one.

The development of chapter 3 has been started. The game is longer now, so we implemented the save system with two different options to chose:

CASUAL: Don’t worry. The game is responsible for saving your progress every time you change to another room. Just enjoy the moment.

EXPLORER: Feel the true power of the house. You can only save by finding a bed. Remember every corner, or you won’t be able to escape.

Lots of bugs were fixed and also, we enchanted the experience for the player. New settings are available on the main menu, letting the player change the language, adding/removing character voices and changing the save mode.

More sounds and music are being made. Our composer is giving his best on representing the emotions and feelings of every situation via the sound. We are going to use an adaptative soundtrack in specific moments, adding and removing instruments.

In 2020, the development is going to continue. We hope to upload the first demo as soon as we can. The comments and reactions are very important for the team, and they help us in creating the best game possible.

¡Happy holidays to everyone!

See you next year with more news about Bella Muerte 🎉🔜

July – September 2019 | Game Development Diary

Welcome back to our Game development Diary!
We are filled with news to tell you about Bella Muerte (yes! It’s the official title of project “the house”).

Sadly, we can’t apply for the Expoeva (there were only 17 games selected from around 70 studios). Despite this, we focused on reaching the same goals and planned other ways to get feedback.

We polish and added new scenes to the first chapter, including Erica’s room, where the player can learn about his backstory.
Some scenes from the second chapter are in the way too, with the interactible objects and dialogues. Before the end of 2019, our plan is to complete this chapter. 🔜

Now there is a new way to play Bella Muerte. We added joystick support to the full game. Maybe, in the future, there is a chance to also release it on consoles. 🎮

The characters are more alive than ever. We created a script that matches the mouth movement with the words in the dialogue. Also, we recorded all the voices from every scene we developed so far. 🎙️👄

April – June 2019 | Game Development Diary

Hello everyone! We are back, posting a new update about Project “The House” development.

The M151 Games team is working hard and with all his passion for creating this game.

Our first big goal was to get all the prologue completed, with full audio, music, image and programming. We are happy to announce that we achieve it! The prologue is 100% completed and soon we will show it to all of you.

For now, we are working on chapters 1 and 2. Our new goal is to complete, at least, the first one and exhibit it next to the prologue in the ExpoEva 2019 (in Argentina). If the development goes fast, we will also show the second chapter in the expo. We are anxious to see the first impressions of the game!

We are finishing some rooms In the first chapter, this includes The main hall, some hallways, a cleaning room, the kitchen and more (its a surprise 🤫).

You are going to have a lot of exploration in this chapter and maybe, you come across with someone…

Soon we will tell you more details about the story. Also the definitive name of the game 😱.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more updates!

February – March 2019 | Game Development Diary

Hello everyone! This is our first post on the Game Development Diary about Project “The House”.

February and March were really great months for our game. A lot of progress was made constantly. We focused on the main mechanics, the design and the first scenes (continuing what we started in January). Also, we define the art style and leave some time for experimentation.

Programming:

We focused a lot of time on creating and perfecting the main mechanics of the game. This includes the camera/player movement, the different interactions with the environment, the dialogues and the inventory system (including the UI).

Scenes:

After testing some mechanics, we finished the prototype of all the main scenes from the prologue and a half of the first chapter.

During the next month, our goal is to complete all the prologue with the art style and a few sounds. Also, we plan to continue adding scenes up to the third chapter.

Art Style:

At first, our artist prepared the esthetics of the game. She defined how the characters look like, creating the whole Pérez family. Later, she created the art style of the first scenes from the prologue and a few of chapter one.

Animation:

We researched and found some possible options for exporting After Effects animations into Unity.

Music:

We listen to a lot of music from movies, series, and videogames with our composer. He started experimenting and creating the main theme of the game with multiple versions (one for thriller/exploration and another for horror moments). Also, we recorded the first sounds for the ambiance, including some related to the interaction with doors and keys.

We plan to add more music and sounds to the majority of the scenes from the prologue and chapter one in the next month.

Social:

When the game was in a good state, we decided to open an account on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It was really important for us to present the game as soon as we can and get the people more involved during the development.

The social network accounts were completed, with a redesign of the M151 Games logo. Later, we posted a short teaser.

We planned with our artist to officially present the game with a family photo. She focuses on creating each member of the Pérez family for this presentation.

On 09/3 we posted the image, revealing Project “The House” for the first time. We are very happy with the results.

From that moment, we focused on constantly showing the progress of the game by posting different

images and videos.

Project “The House” is growing every day, our goal is to bring you an interesting and immersive story to play. We are going to continue working in the next few months to bring this game to life in the best way possible.

Welcome!

Hello everyone! Welcome to our new blog.

We are going to post an update every month to keep you up to date with all the news and progress of our new game.

As regards to this, we are very proud to present our game officially for the first time. At this day, we are calling it: Project “The House” and it’s going to be a thriller/horror graphic adventure for Android and PC (we are open to expand the number of platforms later).

In this game, you are going to explore the house of the Pérez family, trying to escape and discovering what’s going on with each member of this ghostly family. Some are more friendly than others…

The house is haunted, with tons of mysteries and puzzles to solve.

Every decision matters! Depending on your choices during the game, some things will be different (especially the end).

Thank you for your interest in our game! We hope you like it.
